[New!] June 6th, We had our observation for the renewal of our National Accreditation from the National Association for Family Child Care.

April 2-4th, I attended the Indiana Early Childhood Conference in Indianapolis.  Here are some of the classes I attended during the conference.

  1. Many Kinds of Smart (Lisa Murphy): Learning information about the nine kinds of smart that children possess. A new perspective on childhood brilliance.      

    1. Linguistic / Verbal   = Word Smart

    2. Math / Logical         = Number Smart

    3. Spatial                      = Picture Smart

    4. Body / Kinesthetic   = Body / Movement Smart

    5. Musical                    = Music Smart

    6. Interpersonal            = People Smart

    7. Intrapersonal            = Self Smart 

  2. “I am angry, What are you going to do about it?”  (Diane Smith):  Learn about the latest research on how to help children deal with their anger issues by incorporating children’s literature and activities.

  3.  100 activities for outdoor environments (Lois Noggle & Nicole Morrow):   Exciting ideas to use in our outdoor play environment. Games, centers, ect.

  4.  Parenting Counts: A focus on early learning (Pam Stigall & Mary Ducette): Parenting and Families receive research-based parenting materials and resources (Including lesson plans and multimedia tools) to help educate parents and caregivers of young children.  Go to pbs.org and talaris.org

  5.  Math-A-Magic: Connecting Children’s Books and Math for Preschoolers (Jeanetta Grahm &Toni Barker): Children learn mathematical concepts best through manipulation of concrete objects and the use of language.  Learn how to use stories, manipulatives, games, and “skill-building” activities with preschoolers.

  6.  F+A+M+I+L+Y - What spells involvement in your program? (Jennifer Mohr): Let’s discover together why each family should be, and can be, involved in your program and in each child’s learning.

  7.  Preschool on a budget (Tina Moss & Pat Williams): Offering fun, engaging, developmentally appropriate activities that enhance independence while stimulating creativity, and fine and gross motor skills at little or no cost.

  8.  “If I could work only with the children…”  Strategies for working with Parents (Teresa Hinkle): When providers and parents work together, everyone wins!  Learn to interact with parents in positive ways and involve them more!
